There has nothing but positive words said about Luis Severino's rehab progress, and that's all the Yankees could ask for as we reach the final month of the regular season.
According to NJ Advance Media's Brendan Kuty, Severino is going to start Sunday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in his first rehab game. He'll likely go through a few of these starts as he gets used to game situations again.
If all goes well, Severino could find himself back in pinstripes before the Yankees head to the postseason. What the Yankees and manager Aaron Boone will do with him when he makes it back to the bigs, though, is still up in the air.
The Yankees have two options: allow Severino to return to his starting role, or send him to the bullpen to ease him back in.
Hall-of-Famer Pedro Martinez said on MLB Network earlier this week that he prefers option B, believing that the Yankees shouldn't put Severino in high-pressure situations right away. Martinez thinks the Yanks should allow him to feel comfortable on the mound again, especially considering they should be coasting into the playoffs once he returns.
But the team will have to see what comes out of Severino's rehab games first. He shouldn't be seeing too many innings in these start. Instead, the Yanks will focus on the control of his arsenal and how he feels following his outings
