Th Knicks (7-21) came to play right out of the gate after returning from their west coast trip, as they absolutely dismantled the Hawks (6-22) 143-120 in what was Vince Carter's final game at Madison Square Garden >> Box Score

Five things to know from Tuesday's game

1) The Knicks were happy to return to the Garden on Tuesday night and they showed it, scoring a season-high 41 points in the first quarter, by far their best 12 minutes of the year that included a 13-0 run to end the quarter.

New York continued its dominance into the second and third quarters, extending that run to 21-0 and scoring 77 points in the first half alone. At 81-53 in the third, the Knicks took their largest lead in a game this season and extended it to 84-53 to take a 31-point lead at a point.

The Knicks held onto their lead throughout the rest of the game and ultimately took the 143-120 win at the Garden. The 143 points the Knicks scored is the most they've scored in a regulation game since 1980. They have now won three of their last four games and seem to be rolling a bit here as the New Year inches closer.

 

2) RJ Barrett went off against his former Duke Blue Devils teammate Cam Reddish, going 10-of-13 from the field for a season-high 27 points, six assists and five rebounds. Reddish on the other hand had a quiet evening, putting up nine points on 3-of-8 shooting in 26 minutes off the bench.

3) Marcus Morris continued to put up big numbers for the Knicks in his first season in New York, scoring 22 points. Julius Randle picked up another double-double on the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. 

4) Mitchell Robinson, Kevin Knox and Dennis Smith Jr. contributed nicely off the bench for New York. Robinson had a double-double with 22 points (season high) and 13 rebounds, while Smith Jr., who has been struggling with his shot this season, put up a solid eight points off 3-of-5 shooting. Knox added a season-high 17 points after getting hot in the second half -- likely riding the momentum of a thunderous slam in the second quarter.

5) Vince Carter made his final appearance at the Garden Tuesday night as he gets ready to conclude his career after a record-breaking 22nd season in the NBA. Carter led the Hawks' bench in scoring with 15 points in 24 minutes. Trae Young put up another strong performance with 42 points, and yet the Hawks were blown out here Tuesday night, clearly showing he needs some help and he needs it fast.

The Knicks will head down to South Beach to face the Miami Heat on Friday night with hopes of kicking off another win streak for the second time this month.
