The Knicks fell to the Dallas Mavericks 99-86 at home after shooting just 36 percent from the field.

Here are a few key takeaways from Friday's game...

- Despite there only being 2,000 fans in attendance at The Garden, they made their presence felt early, booing Mavericks big man Kristaps Porzingis during introductions and every time the former Knick touched the ball.

Porzingis scored his only points of the quarter on an alley-oop to make it 10-7 early on. RJ Barrett then hit a corner three after a great steal from Nerlens Noel to start the fastbreak.  Immanuel Quickley and Alec Burks got off to hot starts, making threes with their first shots on back-to-back possessions. The Knicks led 25-22 after the first quarter thanks to shooting an impressive 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.

- Rookie Obi Toppin had arguably his best stretch in a game this season, driving in the lane and banking in a shot for the and-one. He continued to play aggressive, making a jump shot before an exciting put-back dunk over Porzingis to make it 39-31 Knicks with 7:51 remaining in the second quarter.

Former Knick Tim Hardaway Jr. tied the game at 46-46 with his second three of the night before Doncic nailed a deep step-back three to give Dallas the lead. They ended the second on an 18-2 run, outscoring the Knicks 27-21 in the quarter.

- Julius Randle was just 1-of-11 from the field at the half with five points and five assists. Porzingis had a rough first half as well, shooting 2-of-10 from the field and 0-of-6 from three for only four points and two rebounds. He received a technical foul after the buzzer heading into halftime while talking to officials, as Quickley started the third quarter by making the technical free throw.

- Randle got his second bucket of the night on a fastbreak dunk to give the Knicks a 59-58 lead midway through the third. He banked in a fade away jump shot with the clock ticking down, scoring five straight points to close out the quarter, but the Mavs led 72-69 heading into the fourth.

- The Mavs took their largest lead of the game 88-75 with about four minutes left in the game as Doncic banked in a deep three from the top of the key. He then received a technical foul after making a layup on the next possession for taunting Barrett and yelling towards the referee.

- The Knicks defense struggled to find a way to stop Doncic in the fourth, and only scored 17 points in the quarter. He ended the game with 26 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, while Porzingis had 14 points and eight rebounds in 34 minutes.

Randle finished the night with 14 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds, shooting 5-of-20 from the field. In a rough scoring night, Barrett had just eight points on 3-of-11 shooting with six rebounds. Burks led the Knicks in scoring with 20 points off the bench, and Toppin contributed nine points in 11 minutes of action.
