Immanuel Quickley: B+

Quickley’s shooting took a while to get going, but he’s been a sparkplug in other facets all season. Constantly pushing the pace, knifing into the paint and creating for others, Quickley was the Knicks best point guard this season and showed much improvement over last year.

Obi Toppin: B+

In the same vein, Toppin flexed a tighter handle and more confident scoring repertoire, as well as bringing in a boost of energy every time he touched the floor with his constant movement and breakneck transition game. There were stretches during the year where he’d disappear, holding him back from an A, but an overall solid campaign from the sophomore.

Kemba Walker: C-

Walker’s body simply couldn’t hold up to the starting duties he was given, and defensively he was picked on nightly. This signing was meant to be a flier, and in another (smaller) role he could’ve been fine, so he earns some sympathy points there.

Taj Gibson: B-

Gibson really began showing his age down low this season, mostly due to the extended minutes he was forced to play between injuries and health and safety protocols dinging up the roster. The three-point shot is a nice twist on his game that’ll likely prolong his career another 20 seasons.

Quentin Grimes: B+

It’s always a nice surprise when a rookie, especially one drafted well outside of the lottery, earns himself minutes on a Tom Thibodeau roster. Grimes exploded onto the scene when given the chance and cemented his place in the rotation as an NBA-ready 3-and-D wing, until injury robbed us of much of his second half.

Jericho Sims: B

How much leeway do you grant the late-second-round pick still working his way through rawness and rookie mistakes? Sims doesn't need much, as he had quite a few nice moments this year and showed enough to consider him a real prospect going forward.

Miles McBride: B-

McBride’s offensive success hasn’t translated one-to-one from the G-League, but began coming around as of late while his defense was solid all year long. If he can bring it on both sides of the ball next year, the Knicks will have an interesting option at the point guard.

Tom Thibodeau: C

Team success is often a reflection of its coaching, so naturally Thibs earned his Coach of the Year award last year and hasn’t earned much praise in his sequel. While he deserves credit for unlocking Barrett’s offense and the many improvements out of the other prospects, he equally deserves blame for the underwhelming record and Randle’s struggles.

Knicks fans still have much to be thankful to him for, including back-to-back solid defensive seasons and bringing legitimacy to the franchise, but it’s impossible to separate Thibs from the woes of this year.

Front Office: C-

Grading the front office in the vacuum of one season isn’t fair, as things can change at any moment in this league. That said, the Walker signing was a bust, the Randle extension now looks questionable, and two of the three guys they re-signed hardly played this season. On the flip side, the drafting was on point and trading for Cam Reddish was a savvy move, even if we’ve seen little of him.
