As the Knicks and the rest of the NBA wait for the free agent frenzy that will begin in less than a week, a new report says two of the biggest names -- Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving -- "have met twice in recent weeks" to discuss their "desire" to join the same team this summer.

The talk of Durant and Irving possibly linking up is nothing new, but news of their two recent meetings should turn some heads.

According to Bleacher Report's Ric Bucher, the first meeting took place while Durant was out during the playoffs with a strained calf, with the second meeting taking place in New York shortly after Durant had surgery on his ruptured Achilles.

Bucher's report also cites a source who says Durant is "pissed off" at the Warriors for the way his injury was handled.

Before his injury, Durant was heavily linked to the Knicks, and SNY's Ian Begley has reported that New York could still pursue Durant despite him likely being out for the entire 2019-20 season.

Meanwhile, recent reports have tied Irving to the Nets, with Brooklyn seen as the frontrunner.

Along with the Knicks and Nets (if they let D'Angelo Russell walk), the Clippers can also afford to sign two max free agents this summer. Meanwhile, the Lakers are angling to create more cap space after their trade for Anthony Davis.

Aside from their interest in Durant, the Knicks remain in the running for Irving and Kawhi Leonard, Begley reported last week, adding that the club will seek more information about the nature of Durant's Achilles injury during their pursuit.

The Knicks also don't plan to commit long-term money to a player that isn't on the list of their top targets. If they miss out on their top targets, they are more likely to pursue short-term contracts to maintain cap flexibility, according to Begley.
