A report indicated that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving knew "months ago" they would be teaming up in Brooklyn. Apparently it was not a well-kept secret.

New Knicks power forward Bobby Portis said players around the league knew about their intentions back in February.

"I knew what was gonna happen in February," Portis said, according to The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov. "We all knew that (Durant and Kyrie Irving would go to Brooklyn). Everybody knew that. I just don't think the media knew that. Us basketball players, we all knew that. ... I'm not going to leak my source. But we all know where they were going. I'm protecting mine, but we all knew where they were going."

Durant and Irving, Bleacher Report's Howard Beck wrote last week, reportedly knew prior to the 2018-19 season that they would team up this summer.

Though they both previously discussed teaming up with the Knicks, neither one reportedly was "eager to wear the 'savior' mantle that's thrust upon every star player, coach or executive who lands at Madison Square Garden," Beck wrote.

Add in the fact that they were impressed with Nets GM Sean Marks and how the Knicks are reportedly viewed around the league as an unstable franchise, and it led to the two of them making their way to Barclays Center.

When the Knicks turned their attention elsewhere in free agency, Portis was one of the players the Knicks landed on, as well as Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, Wayne Ellington and Elfrid Peyton.

The Knicks may not boast as much star power as their counterparts in Brooklyn, but Portis believes they have character now.

"I feel we have a team full of grinders," Portis said. "We have a team full of guys that's been underdogs in their career, always been picked second. When you have a lot of guys like that goes out there and plays with a swagger and a chip on their shoulder, you got a basketball team."
