Leon Rose and the Knicks have been actively clearing salary cap space heading into the start of NBA free agency.
Here is the latest buzz surrounding the team...

As the news of Knicks target Donovan Mitchell heading to the Cleveland Cavaliers settles in, the story gets a little more interesting.
According to SNY’s NBA Insider Ian Begley, if the Knicks traded for Mitchell, Carmelo Anthony could’ve joined him. Begley writes, “I think there would have been mutual interest between Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks if the club had traded for Mitchell.”
With Mitchell no longer available, Begley isn’t sure about where Anthony and the Knicks stand for a possible reunion, but says he believes “there would have been at least consideration from both the Knicks and Anthony’s side” had Mitchell been sent to New York.

With Mitchell Robinson staying in New York for the foreseeable future, here's how his four-year contract breaks down, per SNY's Ian Begley.
In 2022-23, he'll make $17,045,454. The following season he'll make $15,681,818. The year after that, he'll make $14,318,182, and in the final year of his deal he'll make $12,954,546.
The contract is fully guaranteed with no options.
Meanwhile, Isaiah Hartenstein's deal is worth $18.1 million over two years with bonuses and $16 million without bonuses. He also has a five percent trade kicker.

After the Jazz made it clear they would hear trade offers for Donovan Mitchell, The Athletic's Shams Charania and Tony Jones report that the Knicks are discussing a trade to get the All-Star guard.
Charania also reports that New York has Utah's focus currently in trade talks for Mitchell.
SNY's Ian Begley reported that Utah is looking for a package similar to what they got for Rudy Gobert from Minnesota, but that the Knicks had been reluctant to trade RJ Barrett.

The Jazz are now willing to hear trade offers for Donovan Mitchell, ESPN reports.
Utah had previously shut down inquiries on moving the All-Star guard, but after trading Rudy Gobert earlier this month, it seems that Mitchell isn't necessarily off the block.
The Knicks have long been interested in acquiring the New York native, however, at this point in time, the Knicks are unwilling to meet the potential asking price for him.
Mitchell had questioned his future with the Jazz after Quin Snyder stepped down as GM.
Mitchell has four years, $135 million left on his contract, including a player option on the final season. The 25-year-old is an Elmsford, NY native, and his father works as a director of player relations for the Mets.
July 8, 4:50 p.m.
The Knicks announced they waived Taj Gibson.
Gibson's contract, worth $5 million, was not guaranteed until January, so the move clears up space to officially bring in Jalen Brunson.
He averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game in his three seasons with the Knicks.
Gibson, whom the Knicks attempted to bring back on the league minimum per SNY's Ian Begley, will be signing with the Chicago Bulls, according to The Athletic.
July 6, 5:28 p.m.
Several teams have expressed interest in Taj Gibson, reports SNY's Ian Begley.
Gibson's contract for the upcoming season is worth a tick over $5 million, but not a penny of it is guaranteed until January.
With the Knicks re-signing Mitchell Robinson to a four-year, $60 million deal, and signing Isaiah Hartenstein to a two-year deal worth $24 million, the Knicks have plenty of options with Gibson - waiving him (and even bringing him back on the league minimum) could clear more room for Jalen Brunson, notes Begley.
June 30, 10:49 a.m.
Some members of the Knicks organization are optimistic there will be common ground this offseason on an extension with RJ Barrett, reports SNY's Ian Begley.
Per Begley, if the Knicks extend Barrett, re-sign Mitchell Robinson, and sign Jalen Brunson, they would not have cap space for the 2023 offseason.
However, even if a Barrett extension starts at $30 million annually, the Knicks would still be under the projected tax line. That means they would have the ability to sign players next offseason without incurring a penalty.
Begley notes that their projected cap situation would obviously change if they traded a player set to make significant money in 2023-24.
June 29, 6:20 p.m.
The Knicks are making a push to land Jalen Brunson, but they are not alone.
According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, Brunson will have meetings with the Knicks, Mavericks and the "darkhorse" Heat when free agency begins.
Per Haynes, the Mavs had hoped a five-year, $106 million offer would get the deal done, but that's not the case.
June 29, 5:26 p.m.
While the Knicks were in the mix to land Spurs guard Dejounte Murray, he'll now head to Atlanta.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spurs are trading Murray to the Hawks in exchange for Danilo Gallinari and first-round picks in 2023, 2025, and 2027, along with a pick swap in 2026.
June 29, 5:10 p.m.
According to Mark Stein, "momentum is building" towards the Spurs trading star Dejounte Murray, with the Knicks, Hawks, and Timberwolves among the known suitors.
SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley reported earlier on Wednesday that the Knicks are among the teams to express interest in Murray, with some in the organization talking about Murray's potential fit in the backcourt with Jalen Brunson, whom the Knicks are also pursuing.
