On Draft Day Eve, every Giants fan is wondering what GM Dave Gettleman is going to do with that No. 4 overall pick. Is it going to be used on an offensive tackle? How about Isaiah Simmons? Will Gettleman finally trade down?
These are all of the top questions, but Hall of Fame coach and current Fox Sports NFL analyst Jimmy Johnson thinks the Giants shouldn't rule out drafting a quarterback.
Sounds nuts, right? Well, listen to what he had to say on the matter that also involved the Detroit Lions at No. 3:
"[No.] 3 and 4, I would think long and hard about taking a quarterback if I didn't get a trade I wanted," he said. "You can say 'Well, how about the cornerbacks? How about the offensive linemen? How about the defensive end?' Now you tell me, what's more valuable?
"If I didn't get the trade I wanted, I would take one of those quarterbacks because I promise you the value of those players will go up."
So Johnson would want the Giants to look at trading down first, something SNY's Ralph Vacchiano heard is the team's preference at the moment.

They've also done their homework on Oregon QB Justin Herbert, who is expected to be a Top 10 pick. Vacchiano noted that new head coach Joe Judge wouldn't name Daniel Jones, the sixth overall pick in last year's draft, as his starter. Also, the Tom Brady rumors were never really refuted by the Giants when they came out before he eventually signed with Tampa Bay.
But, at the end of the day, it just doesn't make sense in the slightest. The front office and the players both gave stamps of approval for the Duke product following his rookie season, where he led all rookies in passing touchdowns. Sure, he had his ball security issues, but a rookie is allowed to make mistakes.
The Giants have too many other holes on this roster, like the offensive line where it appears the Giants are actually leaning toward with their first-rounder. So, while it is an interesting idea from Johnson, one would think the Giants won't use their first-round pick simply for trade bait after selecting at a position it didn't need.
