Jeurys Familia was two years removed from his 51-save season, and last week the Mets traded him to the Oakland A's for two prospects and additional international bonus pool money.

Familia, who went down in franchise history as one of the best closers the Mets ever had, only had three outings in which he pitched longer than one inning this season, his first after missing most of 2017 with a blood clot in his shoulder. But in each of his two appearances with the A's, Familia has pitched two scoreless innings.

Since his June 27 meltdown against the Pirates in which he allowed four runs and three hits without retiring a batter, Familia ended his Mets tenure with a string of seven consecutive scoreless innings.

The Mets decided to deal him last weekend in exchange for third baseman Will Toffey, a 23-year-old who hit .244 with five home runs and 32 RBIs for High-A Stockton before being assigned to Double-A Binghamton, Bobby Wahl, a 26-year-old pitcher who has spent the entire season at the Triple-A level but made his MLB debut last season.

The A's are 5-0 since they acquired Familia, including an extra-inning victory on July 22 and a 13-10 win on July 24, both times Familia receiving the win in the decision. Familia (6-4) has more wins this season than Mets ace Jacob deGrom (5-5) and as many as Noah Syndergaard (6-1) and Robert Gsellman (6-2), who lead the team this season.

Familia has retired 11 of the 12 batters he has faced since heading west. He has three strikeouts and lowered his season ERA to 2.62 in the process.
