After the Browns comeback win against the Jets on Thursday night, head coach Todd Bowles is making some coaching changes.

According to the Daily News' Manish Mehta, Bowles will be retracting some play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers. Bowles will now take over in two-minute and hurry-up situations.

Why did Bowles make the call? Rodgers initially had a great plan to halt the Browns' offense, as starting QB Tyrod Taylor was held to 4-for-14 for 19 yards with constant pressure throwing him off. The Jets also collected three sacks before Taylor exited with a concussion.

But, when 2018 No. 1 overall draft pick Baker Mayfield came in, the defense faltered. There was miscommunication near the end of the first half when Mayfield took over the Browns' offense. Players were looking to one another for the play and seemed confused as the ball was being snapped. Mayfield would go 3-for-4 for 47 yards, and the drive ended with a field goal before the players went to the locker room.

Then, the obvious result was Mayfield's fourth-quarter drive that led to a touchdown, giving the Browns the lead for the rest of the game. To avoid those communication lapses moving forward, it will be Bowles making the calls.

Rodgers' defensive unit has played well despite the team's record this season. They rank eighth in yards per game (301.3) and 10th in scoring (58).
