Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is still uncertain for Sunday's game against the Patriots as he looks to return from a strained right foot.

Darnold dressed for practice for the second straight day but did not participate again, however he said he feels he's getting closer to returning.

"Every single day I feel like I'm progressing and I'm doing so much more in terms of learning and all that," Darnold said, according to NYJets.com's Randy Lange. "So hopefully I can do a little bit more tomorrow and see where we go from there."

Head coach Todd Bowles did not yet rule out Darnold for Sunday's game, however he said a better determination on Darnold's status would be made Friday.

"He's getting better, he's progressing along," Bowles said. "We'll see how he is by Friday."

If Darnold, who has thrown for 1,934 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in nine games as a rookie, is unable to go, veteran quarterback Josh McCown would likely get the start against New England.

"It's similar to two weeks ago," said McCown, who threw for 135 yards and two interceptions in a Week 10 loss to the Bills. "We'll go accordingly and I'll get myself ready and we'll see what Coach says. That'll be Coach's call."

Jets safety Marcus Maye (shoulder/thumb), wide receiver Robby Anderson (ankle), linebacker Brandon Copeland (elbow) and offensive guard James Carpenter (shoulder) did not practice on Thursday, while wide receiver Quincy Enunwa was a limited practice participant with an ankle injury.
