Jets QB Sam Darnold has taken the initiative to get his offense together for some group workouts in Florida, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed on Tuesday. The New York Daily News was first to report the workouts.
At this point, players have been working by themselves and in virtual meeting rooms with training camp ahead. But with Florida's coronavirus restrictions less strict than those in other states across the country, Darnold has found a spot at the Bommarito Performance System in Aventura, Fla. to conduct workouts.
A source told SNY that Darnold's top three options in the passing game in Breshad Perriman, Jamison Crowder, and rookie Denzel Mims will be present. Le'Veon Bell and Frank Gore, the Jets' running backs tandem, will be there as well, according to multiple reports. The team's tight ends in Chris Herndon and Ryan Griffin were also among the invitees.
The virtual offseason for the Jets will be done at the end of the week, and the next time they are scheduled to appear anywhere is the start of training camp.
So being able to get on a field for the first time before that date is a very big deal, especially considering new faces like Perriman, Mims and (hopefully) Gore will all be able to connect and start building chemistry with their new quarterback.
