Jets storylines this week will surround quarterback Sam Darnold. Will the second-year pro return from mono in Week 5?

While the Jets are still trying to figure that out, they're trying to find answers for their offensive line potentially in front of Darnold, too.

New York head coach Adam Gase said on Monday that changes to the line could be made ahead of his team's meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles this week.

"What we really need to do is figure out which are the best five guys for us," Gase said via conference call. "We need to figure out what the best thing to do for us is moving forward."

Gase added that the message has been sent to players already as well.

"All those guys know we're coming in this week, we're competing and we're going to put the five guys who give us the best chance out there. Not really sure who that's going to be quite yet," Gase said.

"We're going to work through that this week and figure out what's best for us to do for Sunday," the coach added.

The Jets didn't play last week due to their early-season bye, but O-line's outlook wasn't looking great heading into the weekend off.

Football analytics outlet Pro Football Focus ranked the NFL's offensive lines following the first three weeks of the season and the Jets clocked in at No. 26.

The Jets attempted to fix up their offensive line this offseason, even adding retiree Ryan Kalil in August via a one-year, $8.4 million contract. But those haven't all worked out, starting with Kalil. The former All-Pro is the Jets' poorest-rated lineman via PFF, clocking in at a 45.8 overall grade.

Kalil's ranking falls in PFF's "poor" category. No other lineman is listed higher than average to this point, either. Kelechi Osemele is the Jets' top-rated lineman at 57.6 overall, followed by Brian Winters (57.0), Brandon Shell (56.4) and Kelvin Beachum (55.2).

Depth options for the Jets that could potentially see an opportunity to earn a starting spot this week include rookie tackle Chuma Edoga and guard Alex Lewis, who the Jets traded for in August.
