Jets legendary DL Joe Klecko was named one of the three senior finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, per ESPN's Rich Cimini.
"A tremendous honor," Klecko told Cimini. "I didn't want to raise my expectations because of the past. I was hoping for the best, expecting the worst. When I got the call, I got emotional about it. My wife, she's usually reserved, but she was in the background, screaming."
Klecko, 68, spent all but one of his NFL seasons with the Jets, beginning in 1977 where he had eight sacks in 13 games.
His best season, though, was easily in 1981 when he totaled 20.5 sacks and was the Defensive Player of the Year runner-up that year as well.
In total, Klecko had 78 career sacks in 155 games. He's already a member of the Jets' Ring of Honor, but now he might find himself with a gold jacket when voting is all said and done.
Klecko needs to get 80 percent of votes from the full committee in January 2023, but as Cimini put it, it's usually a formality that these finalists get voted in.
