The Redskins are looking for their next head coach and a couple of familiar names to Jets fans have reportedly popped up in owner Daniel Snyder'search.

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and former head coach (and current Buccaneers defensive coordinator) Todd Bowles are on Synder's shortlist, according to CBSSports' Jason La Canfora. SNY's Ralph Vacchiano was the first to mention that the Redskins might be interested in Williams as their head coach.

"One that came up a lot, as I spoke to sources, was the Washington Redskins," Vacchiano said of Williams' head coaching prospects on Jets Pregame Live last week. "He was, of course, a defensive coordinator and an assistant head coach from 2004 to 2007 in Washington. And he met with the Redskins last offseason about an unspecified role before he was hired by the Jets. Dan Snyder apparently likes him."

Though the report maintains that Snyder's first choice would be to acquire the rights to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, that scenario doesn't appear to be incredibly likely. Instead, Williams and Bowles are joined by former Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, former Panthers coach Ron Rivera and former college football coach Urban Meyer as possible candidates for the job.

Bowles, primarily a safety as a player, was undrafted out of Temple but spent seven seasons with the Redskins over two separate stints with the team. He was hired as Jets head coach in 2015 and went 24-40 in four seasons before being let go in 2018. This is his first season with the Buccaneers.

In addition to his ties to the Redskins, Williams' lone experience as a full-time head coach came from 2001-2003 with the Bills, when he posted a 17-31 record over three seasons. He was also the Browns interim head coach for the final eight games of 2018, leading Cleveland to 5-3 record to close out the season. The Jets named him defensive coordinator after Williams was let go by the Browns, who hired Freddie Kitchens as head coach prior to this season.
