Jets S Jamal Adams hasn't yet been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, but it seems to be trending that way.

Head coach Adam Gase said on Wednesday that he hasn't been told Adams has a high ankle sprain, but Adams remains in a walking boot.

"He's gotta really feel good for me to put him back out there," Gase said when asked about a potential timetable.

Gase said on Monday that Adams' injury was considered "legit week-to-week" and that it was unlikely he would practice at all in the run-up to Sunday's tilt with Miami.

"I'm going to lean on him a lot, too, as far as how he feels," Gase said Monday. "We want to make sure he's good to go before we put him back out there. I just want to make sure he's in the right place physically so he can play his style of ball, which is basically -- he's the heartbeat of our defense and we need him to be able to go full throttle and he's got to feel right to get back out there."

Adams said the injury came in the first series of last Sunday's loss to the Bengals, but he played through the pain.

"Obviously a freak accident happened and we don't really know -- I couldn't perform as myself," he said at his locker after Sunday's loss. "But I'm really upset that we fell short. That's the ultimate goal. It's not about me, it's about this team. We didn't play well enough to get the win and you have got to give Cincinnati credit.

"I couldn't perform, but I felt like if I just shut it down, I was letting my teammates down. I couldn't do that."

The Jets could be severely undermanned in the secondary against the Dolphins, with Brian Poole in concussion protocol and Arthur Maulet's status also up in the air.
