Adam Gase joined ESPN and YES Network's The Michael Kay Show on Tuesday to discuss the Jets' huge win over the Giants this past week.

Gase discussed the performance of his young quarterback Sam Darnold and how his play seemed different when compared to other weeks this season.

"I thought he played really well," Gase told Michael Kay. "He did a great job of controlling really the things that he could control. He did a good job of making the right decision when he was in the pocket, whether it be taking a sack, throwing the ball away, just those little tiny things instead of trying to go out there and win it by himself. He did a good job of spreading the ball around, doing what he had to do to move the ball down the field."

Gase added that at times he has discussions with Darnold to not try to make too much happen when things aren't there on the field: "We talk about that quite a bit and a lot of it has to do with when he feels like he can extend the play and it might just be a slight inaccurate throw that cna cost a turnover for him. ....If things aren't going well, we have to play smart."

The Jets started the game very well, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter but saw their offense go stagnant a bit as the game continued forward into the third quarter.

"We missed a couple of opportunities," Gase said on the team's lack of offense during that stretch. "...We just didn't get anything going and that's part of the NFL, that's what happens, you have some series' like that and you've just got to go back and regroup and go out there the next time to put something together."

Jamal Adams kept the Jets scoring however, when he strip sacked Daniel Jones and held onto the ball for a touchdown within the first minute of the third quarter. Adams had an amazing game overall, leading the team in tackles and also causing another fumble as well.

"It's hard to explain, I feel like I've seen him play like this a lot, because what you see on Sunday is what we see everyday," Gase said. "...I do think he was at a higher level than what I've seen. I mean he looked fast, he was aggressive...he just looked like he was playing at a different speed than everybody else.

The Jets went back and forth with the Giants down the stretch but were able to get the 34-27 victory on their "home field," in large part due to the defense completely shutting down Saquon Barkley--who finished the game with just one yard on 13 carries.

Gase said before any game that the team always goes in focused on stopping the run, but their bigger focus on Barkley in this game was stopping him in the passing game, not allowing him to get loose on a one-on-one with someone. Barkley had five receptions for 30 yards Sunday afternoon.

With their second win in the books and the 1-8 Redskins coming up, the Jets have an opportunity to get on the right footing here and go on a little streak.

"It's going to be about our preparation, making sure we stay focused on the task at hand," Gase said. "We're not really in the position to look ahead. We need to focus on doing a good job this week, preparing for the game, getting ourselves ready and then going on the road on Sunday and finding a way to win a game."
