Who is starting for the Mets?
LHP Steven Matz (7-7, 4.33 ERA) looks to build off his latest start from last Wednesday at the Atlanta Braves. While he was the tough-luck losing pitcher in the Mets' 6-4 defeat to the Braves, Matz was efficient with six innings on 79 pitches, yielding one run on two hits and recording five strikeouts to one walk. But manager Mickey Callaway pulled him at the top of the sixth inning for RHP Seth Lugo, who struggled with just one out in the seventh while allowing five runs on five hits. Before the Braves outing, Matz went 6.2 innings Aug. 7 in the Mets' 7-2 win over the Miami Marlins, scattering seven hits and two runs with seven strikeouts to two walks.
Who is starting for the Indians?
Similar to Matz, RHP Shane Bieber (12-5, 3.27 ERA) carries momentum from his most recent outing last Wednesday. Despite seven hits and two runs with seven strikeouts to one walk over 6.0 innings, he received the loss in the Indians' 5-1 defeat against the Boston Red Sox. Bieber boasts a 3-2 record and 1.89 ERA in his last five starts with 44 strikeouts in 38 innings.
Upcoming schedule
The Mets continue their three-game series against the Indians on Wednesday, hosting another 7:10 p.m. start at Citi Field.
