Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has a way of making headlines virtually every week, and he did so again on Tuesday with a very interesting comment regarding his head coach Jason Garrett.
There has been speculation that Garrett's days are numbers in Dallas, and Jones didn't necessarily help reverse that narrative much during his daily spot on 105.3 The Fan. Here's what he said about Garrett:
Jerry Jones on @1053thefan said he's seen list of rumored candidates to be the Cowboys' coach in 2020, "but they can't guarantee me or my fans a Super Bowl." Believes Garrett has skill set to lead a team there. "In my opinion, Jason Garrett will be coaching in the NFL next year."

The most glaring quote is the obvious omission of the Cowboys in there, as Jones won't publicly save Garrett's job status with his team for next season.
So why does this matter for the Giants? Well, there have been reports swirling around that Garrett would be considered for the Giants' head coaching vacancy -- of course, if the team decided to move on from Pat Shurmur.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said that if both sides do move on from their respective teams, the Giants is Garrett's "preferred destination."
"My understanding is the Giants have emerged as a real and legitimate, potential landing landing spot for Garrett," Rapoport said. "First of all, it is his preferred destination if he can't stick with the Cowboys."
With Jones not guaranteeing his spot for next season, that still leaves that possibility in the air that the Cowboys will be searching for a new head coach. And the way things are going with the Giants at the moment, it's hard to see Shurmur coming back if the losing streak continues through the end of the season.
Now this is pure speculation, especially given Jones' track record of pleasing the media with juicy quotes that don't hold up in the end. But the Cowboys, though leading the NFC East at 6-6, are not happy with the way things have been going recently. Garrett has long been their leader, but Jones may sense it's time to make a change for the franchise.
If the Giants do the same with Shurmur, Garrett may be getting a call from John Mara this offseason.
