Jets owner Christopher Johnson was candid when asked about S Jamal Adams on Sunday, saying "I would love to have Jamal on this team forever."
The feeling is mutual.
"S--t, I want to be a Jet for life, too," Adams told reporters on Wednesday.
For a hot second, that dream wasn't going to become a reality at the NFL trade deadline. Adams' name was flying around the rumor mill, and it appeared at one point that he was going to become a Dallas Cowboy.
What occurred after that is the reason Johnson was asked about Adams in the first place. The Pro Bowl safety wasn't shy when voicing his opinions about hearing those rumors, and it caused a little rift between him and GM Joe Douglas.
The dust has settled, though, and that prompted Johnson to say this:
"Jamal is a fantastic player. We saw that this Sunday. He's an extraordinary player," Johnson said. "He's the kind of player you can build around -- you should be around given the chance. Absolutely amazing."
Adams will be here for the foreseeable future, and his head coach in Adam Gase will be at least through next season with Johnson making that his main point of his media availability. Adams is totally on board with that call as well.
"Well, when you go through coaching changes, it's never a good thing obviously," Adams explained. "It can be, but you're always moving pieces around and everybody's new around the building. We're gelling and we're becoming a family and we're understanding where we want this organization to go for the future.
"Like I said, I have his back. I fully support him and it is what it is. We're excited to have him."
Douglas is also in that big picture for the Jets, as Johnson said he and Gase have already created a "whole new dyamic" at One Jets Drive. Adams can also see the vision forming with the Jets, and he wants to continue being an integral piece of their rebuild.
"I just think it's a bigger purpose. People might not know why right now, but I fully see it," he said. "It's a bigger purpose, it's bigger than me. And I want to be a part of it."
