Jack Hughes stands alone as the top points-getter in Devils history.

The 21-year-old is having a career year with New Jersey and now he’s a part of history, passing Patrik Elias for the most points in a single season. Hughes picked up his 97th point when he scored an empty-net goal in the Devils' 6-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

It's Hughes' 43rd goal of the season.

Hughes tied Elias’ record -- set during the 2000-01 season -- Saturday against the Boston Bruins when he scored an assist on Jesper Bratt's goal in the first period of New Jersey’s 2-1 loss.

The Devils’ first overall pick in 2019, Hughes has been a monster on the scorecard. Entering Tuesday, Hughes had scored nine points (two goals) over his last five games including four against the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 6.

Hughes has been a huge part of the team’s first 50-win season since 2009. So far this season, his 97 points have come on 42 goals and 54 assists.

During his pursuit of Elias' record, Hughes did not hold back on his desire to break it.

"The better I do the better the team does.," he said. "Of course, I want that record and I’m going to be here for a lot of years."

The Orlando native will have a chance to add to his record and try and reach for that coveted 100-point season when the Devils end their regular season against the Washington Capitals on the road Thursday.
