Islanders defenseman Zdeno Chara has been named a finalist for the 2022 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
Out of the 32 nominees, Chara -- along with Philadelphia's Kevin Hayes and Montreal's Carey Price -- were selected as the three finalists for the prestigious NHL award. It is given to the player who "best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey."
The award has been presented annually since 1968 and the Islanders have a good history of having players win the trophy.
Ed Westfall was the first Islander to win the award back in 1977. Mark Fitzpatrick won the trophy in 1992, and most recently Robin Lehner took home the honor in 2019.
The winner will be announced between Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.
