The Islanders extended G Christopher Gibson for another two years, the team announced Monday.

Gibson signed a two-way deal worth $650,000 in the NHL and $225,000 in the AHL next season, and for the 2019-2020 season, his pay increases to $700,000 and $250,000 respectively.

Being low on the depth chart, Gibson spent most of his time with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last season. However, he did log eight games in the NHL where he earned a 2-3 record and .908 save percentage.

Signing Gibson doesn't fix the goalie problem that GM and president of hockey operations Lou Lamoriello has for next season. The Islanders are likely to pursue more options this offseason after their goaltending struggled between Thomas Greiss and Jaroslav Halak last season.

TVA Sports' Renaud Lavoie first reported the news on Friday night.
