The Yankees were finalizing a trade of Sonny Gray to the Reds on Saturday, reported Jon Heyman of FanCred, but the deal has not yet become official.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal noted Sunday that one potential delay in the deal being completed could be that the Reds are trying to sign Gray to an extension first.

Gray and the Reds have until the end of the day Monday to agree to an extension, according to Heyman. Should they not reach an agreement, it is possible the Yankees could negotiate with other teams, as Heyman notes the Giants, A's, Brewers and Braves could be in the mix.

If the trade gets done, the Yanks will be getting infield prospect Shed Long, a draft pick, and potentially one other "lesser" piece from the Reds, according to Heyman.

Long is the seventh-ranked prospects in the Reds' farm system.

The 23-year-old Long hit .261/.353/.412 with 12 homers, 22 doubles, and five triples in 126 games last season in Double-A.

While it seems the Yanks are focused on the Reds right now, SNYtv's Andy Martino reported Friday that the Giants and Padres were also talking to them about Gray.

The Reds had been interested in Gray since early in the offseason, but the Yankees briefly shelved talks revolved around dealing the 29-year-old after CC Sabathia underwent a heart procedure and his status for the 2019 was unclear.

Sabathia was recently given the clearance to pitch, though, and interest ramped back up, with at least six teams inquiring about Gray.

The Yankees recently avoided arbitration with Gray, agreeing to a $7.5 million deal for 2019.

In addition to Gray, teams have also been inquiring about relievers Tommy Kahnle and Jonathan Holder.
