The Mets have released their 30-man roster for the start of the 2020 MLB season.
Breaking it down, there are a couple surprises on the list. First, the Mets will be carrying three catchers to start, which makes sense after Rene Rivera was added to the 40-man roster earlier this week. Also, Andres Gimenez being recalled to join the infielders is an interesting addition.
With Marcus Stroman hitting the IL with a calf muscle tear, it looks like the Mets will have Corey Oswalt filling that void. David Peterson appeared to be a top candidate, but he wasn’t added to the roster.
Finally, INF Eduaro Nunez, LHP Chasen Shreve and RHP Hunter Strickland were all added to the roster as well. Strickland was added as a free agent when summer camp began and has performed well in his appearances. Nunez and Shreve joined the Mets back in spring training.
Two weeks from the start of the season, rosters need to be cut to 28 players, and then to 26 two weeks after that.
