The Giants will not be bringing back linebackers coach Bill McGovern or defensive line coach Gary Emanuel next season, per The Post's Ryan Dunleavy.

Moving on from Emanuel was a given after new head coach Joe Judge brought on Ole Miss defensive line coach Freddie Roach on Monday. This will be his first NFL coaching job after spending time with Alabama along with Ole Miss, which is how the two coaches have a connection.

As for McGovern, it does make sense to get a breath of fresh air at linebackers coach. This unit has been sub-par for a few years now, and Judge recognized that. New defensive coordinator Patrick Graham also has a history as a linebackers coach.

This season, McGovern was specifically the Giants' inside linebackers coach while newcomer Mike Dawson was the outside linebackers coach. McGovern had spent the three previous seasons with the Giants as linebackers coach as well.

McGovern had a bright, young pupil in Ryan Connelly, the Giants' fifth-round pick they believe can be a solid player for them long-term. However, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 4 against the Redskins and was lost for the season.

Alec Ogletree didn't have a bad season, with 80 combined tackles, one sack and six passes defended. However, his coverage skills certainly need more work, and the Giants might have to ask him for a pay cut this offseason. And with Connelly out, David Mayo and Deone Bucannon were the fill-ins most of the time.

The Giants will likely head into free agency and the NFL Draft looking to bolster the position. Who will lead them next, though, is up in the air.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano had some thoughts about who could join Judge's staff, and Tosh Lupoi was the top name in his mind. However, the Falcons scooped him up as their new defensive line coach and run game coordinator. Another name is Jerod Mayo given his link with Judge on the Patriots, but would he want to make a lateral move to remain a linebackers coach?

Finally, there's Pepper Johnson, who some believed Judge could consider for the defensive coordinator position. He's currently under contract in the XFL as a defensive coordinator, and Vacchiano is hearing he doesn't want to leave that job at the moment.

There is no clear candidate that has been brought to light, but Judge is trying to move quickly to get his staff together so he can begin building his plan for improving the team this offseason.
