DeVito will travel to Dallas separate from the team, and is considered a 'long shot' to play

When the Giants take the field for a divisional bout against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday at AT&T Stadium, they'll likely be on their third different starting quarterback of the season.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters on Tuesday that Tommy DeVito is dealing with a right forearm injury and is "not 100 percent to play," and on Wednesday the Giants announced that DeVito will stay back for "further examination" and travel to Dallas separate from the rest of the team, this after he did not participate in Wednesday's practice.

With all of this mind, it appears that backup quarterback Drew Lock will get the start, with ESPN's Jordan Raanan saying "it's a longshot" that DeVito will be able to play.

"I'm sore, whole body is kind of sore. First time playing in a while. Took a couple of shots. It's not even 48 hours, so things are still settling in," DeVito told reporters on Tuesday. "The plan is to play. See how I feel tomorrow, hopefully wake up feeling a little bit better after getting some more treatment today. Looking forward to tomorrow."

DeVito took a beating in the team's 30-7 home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, his first start of the season, as he was sacked four times and hit nine times. He also threw for just 189 yards with no touchdowns.

Late in the fourth quarter, DeVito was forced to miss one play after taking a huge hit on an incomplete pass deep inside Giants territory. Lock then entered and completed a short pass to running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. before returning back to the sideline.

"If this is a regular week, Tuesday is usually when things settle in to your body, when you get hit on Sunday," DeVito said. "Usually Monday is a little sore and Tuesday is usually the worst day. So having the extra four or five days after that usually help. But obviously, this week is very different. That's why I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

With the Giants all but certainly turning to Lock, it'll be the former second-round pick's first NFL start since Week 15 of last season. At that time, Lock was playing for the Seattle Seahawks. He signed a one-year, $5 million free-agent deal with the Giants this past offseason.
