Here's something that Giants fans haven't been able to say in awhile: The offensive line looks pretty solid this season.

I'm being serious when I say it, too. The Giants saw much improvement in the second half from new left tackle Nate Solder and new left guard Will Hernandez, while Jon Halapio should be returning fully healthy after winning the center job after training camp last year.

There is also the addition of new right guard Kevin Zeitler, who comes over from Cleveland in the Odell Beckham Jr. trade. According to Pro Football Focus, Zeitler was the league's best pass-blocking guard, and the sixth-best guard overall.

But there is still one problem the Giants must solve before training camp begins: They need a new right tackle.

Chad Wheeler is the current right tackle, but PFF had Wheeler's grade at 47 last season, which is below average and put him as the 78-ranked tackle in the league. And there isn't anyone on the depth chart at the moment that can compete for the job at training camp. Brian Mihalik only has five games of NFL experience, while Victor Salako has yet to see NFL regular season action.

This is why many believed the Giants would get a tackle near the top of the NFL Draft to solidify that position, or at least hit the mid rounds to give Wheeler some good competition. Instead, the only lineman the Giants drafted was Kentucky's George Asafo-Adjei, who is being considered a guard despite playing tackle for the Wildcats.

Does this mean the Giants plan to dip their hand in the free agency pool? They still have about $14 million in cap space to work with, which definitely makes finding a bargain piece on the market a serious option.

With all the top tackles off the board, here's who is left for Big Blue to potentially grab...

MIKE REMMERS

The Giants had already brought in the former Vikings right tackle for a visit before the Draft, and GM Dave Gettleman told reporters that he will be coming in for another visit very soon.

Remmers, 30, was still recovering from minor back surgery when he and the Giants first met. Supposedly the Giants and Remmers were discussing terms, but his health was a concern that led to the deal not being completed. Remmers' agent, Brett Tessler, has been on Twitter saying that his client is healthy, and if Remmers can prove that in his second visit to East Rutherford, maybe a deal can be inked out.

Remmers is the top candidate among the available tackles, and if he is deemed healthy and football ready, it is highly likely the Giants make the call to use him at right tackle next season. He was highly effective in that role in 2017, but injuries pushed him inside on Minnesota's line. That was the case again in 2018, but many believe he can transition back to right tackle where he looks the most comfortable.

JERMEY PARNELL

The Jaguars released the soon-to-be 33 year-old after he started 13 games at right tackle for the past two seasons. But that doesn't mean the eight-year veteran can't play.

Parnell achieved a 65.3 Pro Football Focus grade last season, which is considered above average. He was also in the middle of the pack as the 49-best tackle in the league. He did allow 4.5 sacks last season after not allowing a single one in 2017.

It wouldn't be a massive upgrade on the right side, but Parnell would certainly enter camp as the expected right tackle with Wheeler battling for the job. He would also be pretty cheap, as the Jaguars didn't want to pay his $6 million salary for 2019.

MARSHALL NEWHOUSE

How about the Giants bring in a familiar face in Newhouse? He was with Big Blue in 2015 and 2016, but Newhouse left for Oakland in 2017 where he struggled with eight sacks allowed.

But he could have had an epiphany last season where he didn't allow one sack and had only two holding calls over 14 games between the Bills and Panthers.

Like Remmers, Newhouse is 30, but he isn't recovering from surgery. If Remmers proves not healthy enough, Newhouse could be a good replacement as a player familiar with what it takes to win in New York. We also know how much Gettleman likes his Panthers...

JARED VELDHEER

Veldheer, who will be 32 in June, was solid in 12 games with the Broncos last season, allowing just one sack. And though he wasn't on that side of the ball, Veldheer played with the Cardinals while defensive coordinator James Bettcher was on Arizona's staff.

Bettcher could very well give the 6-foot-8, 321-pound tackle an endorsement, which the Giants would obviously take into account despite his defensive background.
