Giants S Landon Collins is heading to the IR and will need season-ending surgery after suffering a partially-torn labrum during Sunday's win over the Bears, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed.

Head coach Pat Shurmur said Collins "most likely will require" surgery, but the Pro Bowler was meeting with team officials to determine the final decision on Tuesday. Recovery following the surgery is expected to be 4-6 months.

The 24-year-old received X-rays on his left shoulder that came back negative, but further testing showed there was clearly an injury.

This is a tough break for the Pro Bowl safety, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The former 2015 second-round pick can either receive a long-term deal from the Giants, or New York has the option to franchise tag him.

Collins spoke to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano recently about the possibility of getting franchise tagged as trade rumors began to swirl around him with the trade deadline approaching.

"I don't know," Collins said on if the Giants want him long-term. "Does it make me wonder? Yeah. It definitely does."

This Sunday against the Redskins will be the second time in Collins' four-year career, with his first coming last year in the season finale after sustaining a broken forearm. In 12 games this year, Collins is once again leading the Giants with 96 tackles and has a forced fumble.

Michael Thomas, Curtis Riley, Sean Chandler and Kamrin Moore are the Giants' healthy safeties entering Sunday.
