Giants head coach Pat Shurmur already has an answer for ESPN if they ask about mic'ing him up for Monday Night Football this week.

"No," he said quickly.

The reason the question came up in the first place was because Jets QB Sam Darnold made headlines for his "seeing ghosts" comment while wearing a mic two weeks ago. And that was something Shurmur didn't really like.

"Well, you might expect my answer when it comes to mics," he said before practice on Thursday. "I'm not fond of them. I think there are things that get said and corrected during the game that should be internal in my opinion."

Shurmur also showed his support for Darnold, who caught some flak from fans for the comment -- with the fans not realizing the context of it.

"It's hard to play quarterback in this league. He's a tough, young man," Shurmur said. "But if you ask me my opinion about mics, I'm not fond of it. Plus, when you have a mic, then some of what you're communicating at the line of scrimmage now becomes public record. That's just my opinion of that. What happened in the game, I don't know."

So, while Shurmur won't be wearing ESPN's mic, the broadcast company will certainly be asking others to wear it. Who will be that man on the Giants sideline? We shall see.

Shurmur, though, will keep his focus on beating the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. And he won't be worrying about what he says.
