Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones is "getting better" after suffering a high ankle sprain, according to head coach Pat Shurmur. Though, "the chances are very slim" that he'd be able to play on Monday night when the team travels to Philadelphia to play the Eagles.

Eli Manning will likely be the starting quarterback against the Eagles in Week 14.

Shurmur is "optimistic" that Jones will play again this season, as the team has four more games left.

He doesn't believe that Jones sitting with an injury will affect his development.

"I've had quarterbacks that played the whole year, and then they kind of realized what happened to them in the offseason when they have a quiet moment," Shurmur said. "Everything's different. I guess you'd have to ask a coach who's had a young quarterback play, then not play, then get back in. They continue to learn all the time. Even though he's got a boot on his foot, he's in there preparing just like he would be if he was gonna play. They learning doesn't stop just because you're not taking snaps."

Jones suffered the injury against the Packers in Week 13, and has started every game since taking over in Week 3. He has thrown for a franchise rookie record 2,374 yards with 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
