When Giants GM Dave Gettleman faced the media over a conference call on Monday to discuss the Odell Beckham Jr. trade, he simply said the move was "purely a football decision."

"We didn't sign him to trade him, but obviously things changed," Gettleman said. "Another team made us an offer we couldn't refuse."

So what does his head coach Pat Shurmur think about one of his most lethal offensive weapons moving on to Cleveland? He is on Gettleman's side.

"Absolutely," Shurmur told The Post's Paul Schwartz when asked if he agrees with the move. "Everything we do behind the scenes, coaching and roster building, is collaborative."

Shurmur, then, signed off on the deal, and reiterated what Gettleman said in that the return made sense for both teams.

"My reaction is always the case with trades, it's good for both parties," Shurmur said. "We feel good about what we got. We got a starting safety, we got a first-round pick and we got our third-round pick. We felt it was good for us and, because we were able to come to an agreement, Cleveland thought it was good for them."

The Browns not only received Beckham from the Giants via trade, but Olivier Vernon was also dealt in exchange for G Kevin Zeitler. So with Shurmur's best receiver and best edge rusher are out the door, he must have some sort of feelings toward it, right?

Wrong. It's the business of the NFL.

"With regard to Odell and even O.V., it was business," Shurmur explained. "I know from my standpoint on a personal level anybody I've ever worked with I wish the best for when they leave. I'm hopeful O.V. and Odell can go to Cleveland, have an impact and help their team win games. That's where it's at."

The Giants worked quickly to fill the voids left by these two players, with WR Golden Tate signing a multi-year deal and OLB Markus Golden inking a one-year pact as well. The Giants also have 12 draft picks to work with this April, including two first-round choice that will very likely see another defensive impact player added to the mix and Eli Manning's potential successor.

Shurmur was on hand at Ohio State's Pro Day to witness QB Dwayne Haskins in action -- a player the Giants could take at No. 6 overall to be Manning's heir apparent. Drafting Haskins and rebuilding the defense through with the other picks, while relying heavily on RB Saquon Barkley to anchor the offense is one prediction as to what Gettleman has planned for the Giants. But it's hard to tell exactly what that plan is considering Beckham just signed a five-year, $90 million extension last August.

Once again, Shurmur parroted Gettleman by saying there is a plan in place to make this team a contender once again.

"We talk about everything we're doing and I do believe we have a plan," Shurmur said.

"There's been a lot of changes. When Dave and I talk about this we want to bring in guys to help make our team better. Playing last year we were close in a lot of ways but we shined a bright light on the fact what's needed to get better and that's what we're trying to do."

Can the Giants do that without Beckham? Shurmur will be tasked with leading the way.
