Giants center Jon Halapio suffered an Achilles tear and will not be ready until fall training camp, general manager Dave Gettleman announced Tuesday at an end-of-year press conference.

"Unfortunately, 'Pio got hurt again -- he tore his Achilles," Gettleman said. "So now he's not going to be ready until camp, probably, most likely. But we feel like we've got some good pieces (on the offensive line) and they've just got to continue to work together and improve. We're always going to look to add. We're not afraid to draft over anybody. So we'll continue to work that."

The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Halapio was carted off the field in Sunday's 34-17 season-ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Halapio underwent the procedure, performed by Dr. Martin J. O'Malley, Tuesday morning at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and is expected to make a full recovery for the 2020 season.

The fourth-year pro made $645,000 on a one-year contract with the Giants in 2019, according to Spotrac.com, and was set to become a restricted free agent.

"This is a frustrating way to close out the season, but I believe that opposition leads to opportunity," Halapio said in a statement released by Dooug Eldridge of the DLE Agency. "More importantly, I trust God's Plan. In due season.

"I'm grateful for the support of the Giants organization and the medical staff at HSS. I look forward to starting rehab next week. I'll do the hard work necessary to return to the field, the game, and the locker room I love so much.

"I want to thank my family, my teammates and the Giants organization, and the amazing Giants fans across the country for their continued prayers and words of encouragement. It means more than you know."
