Giants cornerback Deonte Banks has had an extremely poor start to his sophomore season and things finally reached the breaking point during Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Banks has been a missed-tackle machine in recent weeks and head coach Brian Daboll was said to have been getting into it with him pretty strongly after he was hurdled by running back Najee Harris during an early second-quarter carry.

The former first-round pick was quickly replaced by Greg Stroman, who was elevated from the practice squad ahead of this contest, for the remainder of the night.

"I had a conversation with him on the sidelines that we were going to go with the other guys," Daboll said postgame. "I just thought we needed a little bit more right there. There are a couple of little things that we've got to tighten up detail-wise and I know that he will."

He added: "He’ll bounce back."

Heading into Monday's contest, Banks had already been called out twice this season by both his teammates and the coaching staff for his lack of effort, with the latest example coming on a Jalen Hurts touchdown run during last week's loss to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite the benching, Daboll remains confident that the youngster will be able to turn things around moving forward, and he even left the door open for a potential return to the field during next week's meeting with the Washington Commanders.
