The NFL officially awarded the compensatory picks for the 2020 NFL Draft on Tuesday.

The Giants were awarded three picks by the NFL, adding a third-rounder (99th overall) and two seven-rounders (247th and 255th overall).

Each year, the NFL distributes compensatory picks based on a formula that involves how a team is affected by the previous year's free agency, which takes players' salaries, playing time, and other factors into account.

So for example, in 2019 the Giants lost Jamon Brown, Landon Collins, Mario Edwards, Josh Mauro, B.W. Webb, and Kerry Wynn to free agency, while adding Markus Golden and Golden Tate. While the Giants added and lost other players as well, but only those eight players factored into this year's formula.

According to the formula, the Giants technically qualified for a fourth comp pick (since the net loss of last year was four compensatory free agents), but by league rules, the NFL is only allowed to allocate 32 total picks, and the Giants fourth pick would have been the 33rd given out by the league, per The Record's Art Stapleton.

Also of note, the 255th pick the Giants were awarded is the final pick of the NFL draft, lovingly referred to as 'Mr. Irrelevant.'
