The Nets swapped picks with the Los Angeles Clippers late in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft. Late Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning, the Nets selected shooting guard Jay Scrubb at No. 55 overall but traded him for forward Reggie Perry, the Clippers' 57th selection, according to a report by The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The 6-foot-10 Perry declared March 30 for the draft after a two-year career at Mississippi State. As a sophomore with the Bulldogs for the 2019-20 season, Perry posted a double-double average of 17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds in 31.1 minutes over 31 games (all starts).
He was selected to the All-SEC first team by the Associated Press and coaches in 2019-20. His all-conference efforts included an SEC Co-Player of the Year honor by the AP.
As a freshman at Mississippi State for the 2018-19 season, Perry scored 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in 23.9 minutes over 34 games (18 starts). A four-star recruit from Thomasville (Ga.) High, he took his talents to Starkville, Miss., as the 247Sports Composite's No. 31 overall prospect, No. 7 power forward and No. 3 player in Georgia for the class of 2018.
Scrubb, meanwhile, was a JUCO national player of the year at Carterville (Ill.) John A. Logan College in 2019-20 with 21.9 points and 6.8 rebounds over 29 games. He originally signed his letter of intent Nov. 13, 2019, with Louisville.
However, Scrubb reversed course April 9 when he forewent his college eligibility and signed with an agent to declare for the draft. He was a top JUCO recruit for the class of 2020, a four-star prospect and the No. 1 player nationally.
