The Rangers have had a quiet second day of free agency, but they did lose a key piece of their roster as right winger Jesper Fast signed a three-year day with the Carolina Hurricanes with an average annual value of $2 million.
"Jesper is an intelligent, versatile player who will fits the mold of how the Hurricanes play hockey under Rod Brind'Amour," said Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell.
The 28-year-old was originally draft by the Rangers in the sixth round of the 2010 draft, scoring 55 goals with 92 assists over his seven seasons as a Blueshirt.
Fast, who scored 12 goals with 17 assists last season, has been a valuable member of the Rangers' penalty kill, leading the team in shorthanded time this season as well.
The Sweden product now joins a Hurricanes team that swept the Rangers in the Qualifying Round of this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.
