Former Mets right-hander Carlos Carrasco has signed a minor-league deal with the Cleveland Guardians, according to Zack Meisel of the Athletic.
Carrasco spent the first 11 years of his big-league career with Cleveland, before being shipped off to Queens alongside star shortstop Francisco Lindor in a blockbuster deal during the 2021 offseason.
The veteran right-hander got off to a frustrating start to his Mets career, as he landed on the injured list after suffering a torn hamstring during spring training, and he didn’t make his orange and blue debut until after the All-Star break.
It was later revealed Carrasco pitched through a bone fragment in his elbow the rest of that season, and he ended up undergoing surgery during the offseason.
Carrasco was able to put together a full spring training ahead of the 2022 season, and served as a reliable back-of-the-rotation arm for New York, posting a 3.97 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 29 starts (his most since 2019).
But he couldn't build off that strong performance this season, though, as he showed clear signs of regression and ended up on waivers after posting a 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across just 90 innings of work.
He’ll now have a chance to compete for a spot at the big-league level back where his career began.
