The Knicks will play their home opener against the Boston Celtics on Saturday, but one former member of the team won't be on the floor for his new one.
Enes Kanter, who signed with the Celtics in the offseason, was set to make his return to Madison Square Garden this weekend, but a left knee contusion will keep him out of the Celtics' lineup.
The 27-year-old center played 115 games with the Knicks over parts of two seasons before falling out of head coach David Fizdale's rotation last season. He averaged a double-double (14.0 points, 10.8 rebounds) in his time with New York, but was waived by the team in February before signing with the Trailblazers for the remainder of the season.
Kanter put up 12 points and six rebounds for the Celtics in the team's opener on Wednesday, but is not expected to play in at least either of their next two games.
