Former NFL running back Chris Johnson, who played with the Jets in 2014, denies allegations that he was involved in a murder-for-hire plot that left two men dead, reports TMZ Sports.

TMZ, which has obtained court documents, writes that Johnson has not been formally charged.

According to TMZ, officials believe Johnson "rewarded a gang member with cash" after he allegedly murdered two men who had been suspected of shooting Johnson and killing Johnson's friend in 2015.

During the attack on Johnson in March of 2015, he was shot in the shoulder while a passenger in a car. His friend, Dreekius Johnson -- who was driving -- was killed.

TMZ, citing court documents, writes that officials believe that in January of 2016, a "noted Florida gang member named Dominic Bolden" shot and killed the men who had been suspected of shooting Johnson and killing his friend.

Johnson, 34, played 10 seasons in the NFL, spending time with the Titans, Jets, and Cardinals before retiring following the 2017 season.
