The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Wednesday evening that Tom Coughlin has been relieved of his duties as the team's Executive Vice President of Football Operations.

"I determined earlier this fall that making this move at the conclusion of the 2019 season would be in everyone's best interests but, in recent days, I reconsidered and decided to make this change immediately," Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement released by the team.

For now, GM Dave Caldwell and head coach Doug Marrone will each report directly to Khan.

The NFLPA released a statement on Monday that the Jaguars have been making injured players attend mandatory rehab sessions at the team facility during the offseason, which is not part of the league's CBA. In fact, the Jaguars had fined their players, and one player in particular over $700,000, for not showing up to these rehab sessions.

The NFLPA also stated that of all player grievances filed in the last two years, more than 25 percent came from the Jaguars alone.

Coughlin, 73, joined the Jaguars in January 2017, returning to the team he coached form 1995-2002.

Following a season away from the NFL, Coughlin was hired as the head coach of the Giants in 2004 and went on to have an incredibly successful 12-year run with Big Blue. Coughlin was at the helm of two Super Bowl championships with the Giants, with five playoff appearances overall.

He coached the Giants to a 192-102 record during his tenure, but the team finished under .500 in each of his final three seasons, and was ultimately forced out following the 2015 season.

Coughlin was inducted into the Giants' Ring of Honor in November of 2016.
