After Evan Engram already answered questions about his status Monday when he told reporters his return for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears was "definitely possible," he reiterated his thoughts two days later.

Sidelined for the past two weeks, sitting out the Giants' 34-27 loss to the Jets last Sunday as he nursed his mid-foot sprain, the third-year tight end remains out of practice through Wednesday.

As the 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Soldier Field in Chicago looms for Week 12, Engram expressed some optimism that he could still make his way back with the Giants (2-8) vs. the Bears (4-6).

"We'll see, we'll see," Engram said Wednesday. "That's on the coaches and showing how I feel and what the trainers (are) planning for me, so we're going to see, going to see how the week goes and how the week finishes."

Despite limited action, Engram remains the Giants' leading receiver with 44 receptions for 467 yards and three touchdowns in eight games.

The Giants have seen others such as rookie wide receiver Darius Slayton emerge on offense, but Engram's presence undoubtedly helps.

With the NFL's No. 4 scoring defense at 17.4 points per game up next, the Giants have their hands full as they wait on Engram's status.

"I'm feeling good, I'm feeling good," Engram said. "I'm attacking each day. I'm getting better each and every day. I'm just doing everything the trainers got for me and doing really good."

Beyond the presence of tight ends such as Engram through the air, the Giants have their work cut out up front as they aim to contain the Bears' front seven, including defensive ends Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd.

"You've got Khalil Mack -- he's in the game plan," Engram said. "So that's the type of player he is and they have other good players as well that are rushing the edge and play the middle. So each week is definitely important, run-game wise and blocking schemes, but this week is definitely important to slow down their big playmakers on that side of the ball."
