After the Jets added speedster Mecole Hardman on a one-year deal earlier this week, the receiver room became overcrowded. That led to Elijah Moore's departure.
The Jets shipped the talented youngster off to the Cleveland Browns, along with a third-round pick, in exchange for a second-rounder.
Moore voiced his displeasure with his role in Gang Green’s offense earlier this season. He grew more and more frustrated with his lack of targets and eventually requested a trade.
The Jets decided to hold onto Moore at the time after he had an “uncharacteristic outburst” before an October practice that led to a discussion with head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, per SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes.
Now, after adding Hardman and Allen Lazard to the mix this offseason, they’ve decided to cut ties with the disgruntled wideout.
While speaking with reporters on Thursday afternoon, Moore indicated that he has no regrets with how he handled things with the Jets, saying he "wouldn't take anything back."
“Would I have worded some things differently?” Moore said. “Yes, but not take anything back. My heart was always in the right spot. I would never move without intention. I’m very intentional, especially in a positive way.
“I wouldn’t do anything over. I’m in a space right now where I feel like everything happens for a reason. I take it with a grain of salt. If somethings happening in my life I’m gonna capture it and move forward. We all make mistakes. Everyone in life is not perfect. As long as you learn from it and keep going and try to be a good person, that’s all that matters.”
Moore added that he’s looking forward to the opportunity to play with a “legit quarterback” in Browns gunslinger DeShaun Watson. He caught passes from Zach Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco and Chris Streveler during his time with the Jets.
“Being with someone like Deshaun, it’ll just make life way easier,” Moore said. “It’s someone that has been doing some amazing things around the league. They talk really highly about him here and they believe in him -- and, man, with him being my quarterback, I believe in him, too.”
Moore will get the chance to take on Saleh and the Jets with his new teammates next season. The 22-year-old admitted he's definitely looking forward to the opportunity.
“Of course, always those types of games people look for,” Moore said. “But I treat every game the same, the way I’m gonna attack them is the way I’m gonna attack everybody.”
