After saying following Sunday's loss that Eli Manning's status as the starting quarterback wasn't in question heading into Week 3 against the Bucs, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur made a stunning 180 on Monday afternoon.

"We're gonna talk about everything moving forward. I think that's fair at this point," Shurmur said. "To this point what we've done hasn't been good enough."

Shurmur added that he understood what his comments would cause when it comes to media and fan reaction.

Shortly after Shurmur's comments, Manning spoke with reporters at his locker.

"I gotta get ready to play a game, nothing changes," he said when asked about Shurmur leaving the door open for Daniel Jones to replace him as the starter as soon as Week 3. "Get ready for Tampa and figure out how to get a win."

Manning added that his conversations with Shurmur have been "business as usual" and that he was not told how long his leash might be.

"We're 0-2, you're looking for answers," Manning said when asked if he was surprised how quickly he might be removed as the starter. "I get it. When you draft a guy early and you're not winning games, these (situations) are gonna come up."

Pressed further on what his reaction would be if the Giants decided to make the change, Manning was short in his response.

"Let's stay away from the 'ifs,'" he said.

While nothing is official, it certainly seems that the Eli Manning Era is over.
