Could Amed Rosario be a center field option for the Mets?

Maybe one day, but for now, Mickey Callaway is pumping the brakes on that idea.

"As an organization, we're always going to be willing to do everything we can and think outside the box to be the best we can," Callaway explained on Friday. "The one thing we did focus on and knew we were going to focus on before we did anything with (Rosario) was to continue to try to help him develop at short, and it seems like that's really paying off."

The idea of potentially moving the 23-year-old to center field arose earlier this season, in part because of all the outfield injuries the Mets faced early in the year, while Rosario did have some limited reps in the outfield as a minor-leaguer.

Meanwhile, Rosario's defense at short became an issue. Rosario has committed 14 errors this season, with most of them coming early on. He committed 10 errors in his first 36 games, but has committed just two errors in his next 72 games.

"I think for now, we're probably going to continue to focus at short and go from there," said Callaway.

And as Rosario's defense improved, his numbers at the plate followed. During the month of July, Rosario hit .350 with five doubles, two home runs, and 13 runs scored in 22 games.

Rosario and the Mets have won seven straight games as they begin their weekend set with the Pirates, a team they swept last weekend.
