When it was reported that Donovan Mitchell's relationship with Rudy Gobert was not "salvageable," some speculation came about saying teams including the Knicks might want to swing a trade for the All-Star point guard.
But that notion might be short-lived.
According to Yahoo! Sports' Chris Haynes, Mitchell and Gobert spoke over the phone on Saturday to talk out their differences and it went well. Gobert told Bleacher Report's Taylor Rooks during an IG Live session that the two had talked.

The root of the reported issues between the two stems from Mitchell contracting coronavirus following the announcement that Gobert became the first NBA player to get the virus. It is very well known that Gobert was reckless when it came to mocking the virus, with players saying he was touching things around the locker room on purpose like he was with the mics during his now infamous presser.
The Knicks could really use a solid point guard like Mitchell, but it doesn't seem that they will have the chance to get him. While their salary cap situation is great and players are signed to short-term deals, the Jazz definitely value someone like Mitchell, who has quickly become the face of their franchise.
However, with Mitchell being a New York native and his father, Donovan Mitchell Sr., working for the Mets, it's hard not to make the argument.
Now the Knicks might have to look toward the NBA Draft to find their point guard of the future. Because if these talks continue between the two All-Stars, Mitchell should be staying in Salt Lake City.
