Dominic Smith got honest about his Mets future in a wide-ranging article published this week by MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, who highlighted how the first baseman "wasn't happy playing baseball at all" earlier this summer.

Smith has not played for the Mets since July 16. He landed on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain July 20, retroactive to July 17.

At Triple-A Syracuse on a rehab assignment since last Thursday, Smith is slashing .235/.350/.235 with one RBI through five games. His future in New York is uncertain, but he described himself as "at peace right now."

"With the way I played this year, I don't know if they want to bring me back for how much my contract is," said the 27-year-old Smith, who is under contract for $3.95 million this season and slashing .194/.276/.284 without a home run while adding 17 RBI in 58 games with the Mets.

Before the Mets' trade deadline, which included acquiring then-Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman and designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach, New York worked on trading Smith, according to SNY MLB insider Andy Martino.

The Mets also ended up dealing for Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tyler Naquin, San Francisco Giants first baseman Darin Ruf and Chicago Cubs right-handed reliever Mychal Givens.
