For a while, it was thought that if the Miami Dolphins had their eyes on a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. It now seems like they could have their eyes on an offensive lineman instead, which could have a huge impact on the Jets and a small one on the Giants.
The Dolphins, currently at No. 5, have spoken with teams ahead of them and are "gauging the price" it would take to acquire the No. 3 pick from the Lions, where they would potentially take one of the "big four" offensive tackles, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
SNY's Ralph Vacchiano has heard from sources who believe the Dolphins want a tackle, noting that Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa could surprisingly slide in the draft if Miami is not locked in on taking a quarterback.
For the Jets, the Dolphins trading up to No. 3 but taking an offensive lineman instead of a quarterback (or even staying at No. 5 and taking a lineman) could mean missing out on all of the "big four."
As things currently stand, it's possible that only one of Tristan Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Mekhi Becton, or Andrew Thomas makes it to the Jets at No. 11. With the Dolphins potentially snagging one of them, the Jets could be left out in the cold.
When it comes to the Giants, whose preference is to trade back, the Dolphins going for an offensive lineman early could have an impact. But unless the Giants trade out of the top 10 entirely, they should be able to snag one of the "big four" -- though perhaps not the one graded the highest on their board.
The expectation remains that QB Joe Burrow will go No. 1 to the Cincinnati Bengals, with DE Chase Young almost certainly going to the Washington Redskins at No. 2. After that, the belief was that the Lions would take CB Jeff Okudah at No. 3. But with the Dolphins poking around, things could be about to change.
