Derek Fisher is going back to Los Angeles -- and he finally won't have any more triangles to worry about on the sideline.

The former Knicks player and coach was named head coach of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday.

"Derek is a champion and proven leader on and off the court," Penny Toler, the team's executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement. "With his wealth of experience as a former player and head coach, I can't think of a better steward for our basketball team moving forward."

Fisher, who won five NBA titles as a guard for the Lakers under Phil Jackson between 2000 and 2010, was later hired by Jackson to helm the Knicks in 2014.

The reunion didn't go nearly as well: Jackson urged Fisher to implement his triangle-style offense, but it never quite took hold.

Fisher was fired midway through his second season in New York, finishing with a 40-96 record as Knicks coach.

"I'm excited to be the new head coach of the LA Sparks," Fisher said in a statement. "There is no finer organization in the WNBA and I can't wait to work with our ownership group, front office, talented players and staff to cement a culture of sustained excellence, which is what LA basketball fans demand - and deserve."

The 44-year-old Fisher admitted last month that he may not have accepted the Knicks job had he known ahead of time that Jackson wanted him to run the triangle.

"Had he said, 'Hey, Fish, you have to run the triangle. There's no way around it. If you're not going to do that, it's going to be an issue and maybe we need to go in a different direction,'" Fisher told FS1, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. "... Those weren't conversations that we had. So our communication wasn't effective that (would have) allowed us to both go into the situation knowing this is what it's going to be."

Fisher has kept relatively busy since being fired by the Knicks in 2016. He briefly served as a Lakers studio analyst before participating in Dancing With the Stars and getting arrested for DUI last year.
