Jacob deGrom's agent said Monday that if the Mets aren't serious about signing deGrom to a long-term extension, they should seriously consider trading him now.

"We have discussed Jacob's future with the Mets at length," CAA's Brodie Van Wagenen told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. "Jacob has expressed interest in exploring a long-term partnership that would keep him in a Mets uniform for years to come. If the Mets don't share same interest, we believe their best course of action is to seriously consider trade opportunities now. The inertia of current situation could complicate Jacob's relationship with the club and creates an atmosphere of indecision."

The 30-year-old deGrom is making $7.4 million this season and is arbitration-eligible in 2019 and 2020 before being eligible for free agency after the 2020 season. And deGrom weighed in on the situation minutes after his agent did.

"I would love to play here for my whole career," deGrom said. "I think it's just kind of deciding what we see as the future. It's something that's in the Mets' control, and kind of out of mine."

"We've been open to discussing long-term deals with the Mets," deGrom continued. "There's been no numbers discussed, and I've enjoyed my time here. ... I would love it to be here with the Mets. We'll just have to see what happens."

The Mets discussed a potential extension with deGrom this offseason before avoiding arbitration, then-GM Sandy Alderson said in January.

SNY's Andy Martino has suggested that a deal of five years and roughly $90 million could potentially get it done for deGrom if the Mets are interested.
